On Saturday October 13, Francois Desaulniers (maitre de langue in English) will be offering a walking tour of Old Montreal, a historic quarter that bears many signs of Montreal's rich past. The tour will last 3 to 4 hours. Students will have the chance to observe architecture and important sites from different periods and learn about the communities and some of the people that inhabited this hisotrical neighborhood.

The tour will develop 3 major themes:

  • the founding of Montreal and French colonization
  • the English conquest and the role of the city in Canada's economic development
  • the massive arrival of Irish immigrants and their influence

Travelling back in time while exploring these three general themes, students will discover the past social realities (living conditions, economic opportunities, political and cultural influences) of Montreal's anglophone and francophone linguistic communities.

Date: Saturday October 13

Meeting place: The interior courtyard of Pavillon DS (UQAM), on rue Sanguinet (between rue Christin and Ste-Catherine St.)

Time: From 12:45 (departure at 13:00) to 17:00

Only 15 places are available.
